PLAY DOUGH PLAY
Motor skills – Cutting, rolling, shaping, pressing, manipulating objects…
Literacy – Spelling, word shape, shape and action terminology (create a sphere, create a cube, roll, cut, press, flatten/squish), terminology for objects and features (for anything you make – anatomy, the shapes of object cookie cutters, parts of a house, or one of the many endless possibilities!)

Materials
Making your own play dough
Get the students to help you make the dough, measure the ingredients, and mix their own color creations!
- 1 cup of flour
- ¼ cup of salt
- 1 Tbsp cream of tartar (optional)
- ½ cup of warm water
- 5 drops of natural food coloring (optional)
- Glitter (optional)
- Kool-Aid packets for scent (optional)
Playing
- Letter or number/counting cards – form the dough in the shape different letters
- Letter stamps – press into the play dough to practice the order of the alphabet or the spelling of words
- Texture materials – have students find their own in nature or from the classroom
- Rolling pins
- Cookie cutters – shapes of animals, vehicle’s, etc.
- Scissors/and other cutting tools
